The results from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition came in this week, and Perissos Vineyards was honored with the coveted “Best of Class” award for their 2012 Aglianico, a red Italian wine made from grapes grown on estate at Perissos Vineyards in Burnet, Texas. Perissos also received the following medals for other wines submitted to the competition:
2011 Syrah – Silver
2012 Malbec – Bronze
2012 Petite Sirah – Bronze
2012 Racker’s Blend – Bronze
The competition website provides a list of winners and medals as far back as 2006. Based on that data, no other Texas wineries have received this award from 2013 back to 2006. We currently are awaiting results from years prior to 2006. The link to the Competition results http://www.winejudging.com/medal_winners_2014/best_of_class.htm
About Perissos Vineyard & Winery
Perissos is a small, family-run vineyard in the Texas Hill Country an hour west of Austin. Owners, Seth and Laura Martin (and their 5 children) planted 2 acres of vines beginning in 2005, and have since added 14 more acres of vines. Many of the varietals are Rhone, Spanish and Italian. Visitors enjoy driving up through the vines and enjoying their tastings among the vines as well.
Perissos is passionate about hand-crafting wines made from 100% Texas grown fruit, 80-90% of which is grown on the estate in Burnet, Texas. In 2013, the Martins built a beautiful new tasting room that overlooks the vines. A Wine Enthusiast article released this week named Perissos as “perhaps Hill Country’s most beautiful tasting room”. The article named the Texas Hill Country in the Top 10 Wine Travel Destinations in the world. See the attached link for more information on the Wine Enthusiast Article.
