Perissos Vineyards Expansion Includes Assistant Winemaker

Perissos Vineyards, a family owned winery, is located in Burnet, Texas and is one of the leaders in the nationally recognized Hill Country wine region. Owner and winemaker Seth Martin claims this will be the winery’s final expansion, but we’re not holding our breath! Perissos Vineyards is one of a handful of wineries producing estate grown wines, often receiving gold and double gold awards at national and international competitions such as TEXSOM. As their popularity grows among Texas oenophiles, so does their beautiful facility.

The front area of the new construction, covered in stone, will be a state-of-the-art winery housing all the tanks. The section of the building with the green siding in the back will be for storage of cased goods.  The modern farm design will complement the existing barn architecture, giving the whole place an intimate, enclosed feel on the property.

Long term plans include capturing and storing over 100,000 gallons of rainwater, and installing a 90KW solar field on the entire front roof volume. The family is adding interior stone and custom woodwork, creating a great space for wine club pickup parties and Perissos Vineyards events.

NEW ASSISTANT WINEMAKER

Brent Pape grew up in San Angelo, where he spent every spare minute of his time either bass fishing or exploring the many wonders of the West Central Texas outdoors. However, he’s spent the past eight years of his life in the Texas High Plains attending college.

After completing his bachelor’s degree at Texas Tech University, he went to work for Texas A&M AgriLife Research & Extension’s Viticulture & Enology Program in Lubbock. Brent’s enthusiasm for agricultural research rapidly transformed into a passion for winemaking and grape growing, which convinced him to further his education at Texas Tech while continuing to work full-time.

He recently completed his Master of Science Degree in Agricultural Education (with an emphasis on viticulture and agricultural extension education), along with a Graduate Certificate in Agricultural Leadership, Certificate in Texas Viticulture and a Certificate in Winemaking (all from TTU).

Brent’s experiences in the High Plains taught him that he truly belonged in the Texas wine industry; a business that, “requires one to desire the constant pursuit of knowledge and personal growth.” He believes the Texas Hill Country has a certain kind of charm about it; one that has been calling him here “for quite some time.”
