By on April 5, 2016 Texas Wine News

Austin, TX – Meridian Hive, Austin’s only meadery, came home with a 5-medals from the world’s largest international mead competition – The Mazer Cup International, held in Denver, Colorado in March. Meridian Hive’s 2016 awards include a Gold, Silver, and three Bronze medals. This comes on the heels of medal wins in 2014 and 2015.
The Mazer Cup is open to all commercial international mead producers, with a total of 350 participating entrants for 2016. Meridian Hive received accolades across five different categories.

“It’s great to be recognized for the recipes that we work so hard to perfect. We are encouraged and honored to bring our modern take on an ancient beverage into the market,” said Mazer, Mead maker, and co-owner, Mike Simmons. “This is only our third year entering the Mazer Cup and we’ve medaled each year. It’s unbelievably exciting to take away five medals in 2016, our best performance yet,” said Operations Director and co-owner, Eric Lowe.

About Meridian Hive Meadery

Born in Austin, Texas in 2013, Meridian Hive crafts fine honey wines called mead. Mead has been around for millennia yet almost disappeared in the US until recently. Now it’s one of the fastest growing segments in the alcohol industry. Meridian Hive’s mission is to update the old craft for a modern palette using quality honey, fruits, and spices from around the world. Meridian Hive’s mead selection ranges from bone-dry to sweet and features wine-like stills and their best-selling cider-like carbonated sessions (such as Discovery)

Gold Winning Mead

Meadowfoam, GOLD Meadowfoam blossom honey is highly prized for varietal traditional meads. From the Pacific Northwest, this honey has note of toasted marshmallow, cotton candy, and vanilla, which carry over into the finished mead. Assertively sweet, but with a balanced acidity, our Meadowfoam has proven to be quite popular. Gluten Free.

Meridian Hive meads can be found across Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio in restaurants, bars, grocery stores, liquor stores and online at meridianhive.com. Meridian Hive meads are also available at the meadery tasting room – located at 8120 Exchange Blvd, Austin TX 78754.
